About Kopano

From Humble Beginnings

Kopano Bus Service cc was founded in September/October 2000 and registered in April 2001, and has ten (10) members. During December 2000, Kopano Bus Service started operating as a Black Economic Empowerment cc in the Lebowakgomo area with Great North Transport (Pty) Ltd.

The company has experienced phenomenal growth surpassing the set targets by more than 100 %.Today the company increased its fleet by more than 250%, increasing the number of employees by the same margin. Kopano Bus Service operation success has mainly been fuelled by a solid and visionary leadership together with a strong and capable management team.

OUR 10 BUS STORY

The company’s first ten busses were not operated under its own direct contract, it was subcontracted and paid by a state-owned enterprise bus company (SOE), according to Ms Maponya. “We only had 12 drivers at the time. In honour of the multi award winning Kopano Bus Service and the closure of Women’s Month (August) activities, Limpopo Transport and Community Safety Department hosted a celebratory event at Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane recently (1 September 2022).

MANAGEMENT

Mr John Modjela is currently the Chairperson following the passing of the founding chairperson M Herman Mangwale (May his soul rest in peace) during 2001.

OUR PASSENGER BUSES

Kopano Bus Service fleet is mainly made of 65- and 80-seater buses. These buses are reliable, comfortable and consistently clean to offer passengers a superior onboard experience.

The entity operates in line with and within a legislation and policy environment such as the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa which identifies the legislative responsibilities. Key amid the regulation alluded to: National Land Transportation Act (no 5 of 2009), Transport Appeal Tribunal Act, 1998, South African Transport Services Conditions and Service Act (no 41 of 1998), Urban Transport Act (no 78 of 1977) and the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Amendment Act (no 4) to mention a few.

OUR LOGO EXPLAINED

MEANING OF THE WORD ''KOPANO''

The word Kopano is derived from the Sepedi language, spoken largely in Limpopo Province meaning “amalgamation, unity or coming together. This is because in this case various bus entities came together to form a unit to impact communities and take public transport to the next frontier.

BLACK

This color symbolize authority and class – giving the community the best and sophisticated service in both rural and urban areas.

RED

This color represents warmth towards commuters and passion towards impacting the communities in which the entity serves.

YELLOW

Symbolises hope, customer and staff satisfaction- through best practices in customer service, putting safety measures in place and ensuring ease of access to transportation to the satisfaction and happiness to everyone.

GREEN

symbolises reliability to commuters in a form of business sustainability and development through innovation
